Kos is one of the most beautiful islands of the Aegean Sea, lying in the centre of the Dodecanese chain, south east of continental Greece and north west of Rhodes. It is the third largest of the Dodecanese islands, after Rhodes and Karpathos. Verdant and with a mild climate virtually all the year round, there is much of interest to attract the visitor to
Kos.
Despite the progress caused by the tourism on the island during the last years, Kos has managed to retain its traditional character. Examples of traditional
architecture are excellently preserved
in some country villages such as Asfendiou, Kefalos, Pyli and Antimachia whereas considerable efforts are being made for Kos traditional customs to be revived at every opportunity.
Kos is also famous for the cosmopolitan style of life it offers. Entertainment and fun for every age and taste enable to visitors to have a variety in their choices. Luxurious restaurants, traditional tavernas, numerous night recreation centers, nightclubs, cocktail bars are all offered for entertainment of every kind all day and all nightlong!
Known as “The garden of the Aegean Sea”, the island of Kos is renowned for its natural beauty. The forests that rang along the mountain range of Dikaios are rich in bird life. There are also two notables wetlands that serve as a stopping point for a variety of rare migratory birds, including the beautiful flamingo. Part of the island coastline serves as a breeding ground for various kinds of sea turtle, in particular the well-known Caretta-Caretta.
The beautiful beaches of the island are well organized offering a variety of water sport activities such as paragliding, Jet-Ski, surfing etc. It is worthwhile to mention hat the seawater is absolutely clear and is ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving activities. Finally, Kos Island has five beaches carrying the E.U. blue flag. Distinction for only the best beaches in Europe on most of them one may find café and tavernas.
The visitor may choose between an afternoon walk at the harbor of the town or to relax whilst enjoying the sunset at Zia village on the mountain Dikaios, sharpening his/her mood for the evening activities where everyone may have a choice among the many offered.
And for those who seek adventure, there are a variety of activities among which they may choose. Hiking on the mountain of Dikaios, sailing from the marina of Kos, scuba diving, island hopping, and jeep safaris to the mountain, just to name a few of them.
